Andrei Tadeusz Bonaventura Kosciuszko is known as the national hero of the United States of America, Belarus, Lithuania, France, and also Poland. He was born on February 4, 1746 in the Merechovshchina manor, not far from Kossovo. Today you have an excellent opportunity to visit this magnificent place with impressive landscapes, which is now a local landmark.
Architecture and Exposition.
The farmstead is a house in two tiers, covered with a reed roof, there are 8 rooms in it. The memorial part, which includes 5 rooms – a corridor, a kitchen, a drawing room, a mother’s room and a study room of Father Kosciuszko – was recreated after the model of a noble house and furnished with furniture from the 18th-19th centuries. In the historical part, under which one room is separated, there are materials of archaeological excavations in 2003, coins, medals, money bills with the portrait of Kosciuszko, the coat of arms and the genealogical tree of the Kosciuszko family, the weapons of the peasant rebels are the spits of the cassianers. The administrative part also occupies one room. The demonstration area of the halls of the museum is 200 square meters where 6 permanent expositions are located. The total number of museum items totals 431 units of storage, of which the main fund is 255, the scientific foundation is 176. The museum houses a fragment of the tile of one of the fireplaces, an element of the ceiling decoration and part of the black room of the Puslovsky Palace, coals collected by local residents after the fire that destroyed the historic Kosciuszko house, a shako and the flag of the brigadier general of the US Army, a collection of postage stamps issued in honor of Kosciuszko, as well as a copy of the Kosciuszko saber presented by the Polish Kosciuszko Foundation along with a button, medallion and a piece 12-pound core, found during excavations at the site of the Battle of Maciejowice, which occurred in 1794.
The museum sells souvenirs, conducts lectures and the “Night of Museums”, and every year on February 4 Tadeusz Kosciuszko’s birthday is celebrated. Visitors of the museum are offered an excursion to all rooms of the memorial part, free lectures for pupils of schools and kindergartens, as well as viewing an 18-minute film created with the financial support of UNESCO. Since 2009, the registration of a marriage has been allowed on the territory of the museum.
The museum is located outside the city of Kossovo along T. Kosciuszko street, house 108. The museum is managed by the department of ideological work, culture and youth affairs of the Ivatsevichi district executive committee. The museum operates from 10 to 18 hours, the weekend is Monday and Tuesday. Across the street from the museum at the lake is the Puslovsky Palace, and in the territory of the park ensemble there is a guest house for tourists and a cafe “Tadeusz”, which serves Belarusian cuisine. In the Trinity Church of Kossovo, a font is kept, in which Kosciuszko was baptized.
