The Braslav Local History Museum was organized in 1984, and the first visitors were accepted on April 23, 1988. The basis of the first exposition was whiter than 700 of the most interesting exhibits, which allowed to reflect the most important pages of the history of the city and the region. Funds on the eve of the opening were more than 4 thousand units of storage. Now this figure exceeds 24 thousand.
The collection began with the transfer of materials of a small but substantial museum of Braslav secondary school, created by the guidance of a teacher, local historian A.Yu. Gorelika. Participants in historical events in Braslav region, archaeologists, researchers who study the past of this amazing corner of Belarus, as well as local ethnographers-enthusiasts, rendered a great help in the acquisition of funds. The museum has six permanent exhibitions. The total number of museum items is 27964, of which 23535 are the main fund, 4429 are scientific and auxiliary. In 2003, a special prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus was awarded to the collective of scientific researchers “BROM”. From the cultural events on order museum-pedagogical classes on the subjects of 5 blocks are conducted: familiarizing, ethnographic, historical, the block about national holidays, achievements of ancestors; lectures on the main historical events in Braslav region, well-known figures.
The research work carried out by the museum consists of collecting, studying and processing museum items, preparing information booklets and catalogs of museum items. The local history edition “Pavet” is published. New excursion programs and lectures are being developed.
